Read the map before you decide

Diagnose is a reading of the map you already built. It names an answer, the paths that hold up, the questions still open, and one next move.

It is not a plan from outside your notes, and it is not advice. If the map is thin, the reading will be thin.

Use it when you want a pause, not when you want the desk to decide for you.
